The Read

Terms of Service

Last updated: 10 June 2026

These terms govern your use of The Read at theread.chat, operated by Euan Cox, trading as The Read. There's no account or sign-up — using the service is how you accept these terms. Read them with our Privacy Policy.

1. What the service does

You upload a WhatsApp chat export; we instantly compute a free Down Bad Score from simple statistics; if you pay a one-time fee, our AI pipeline reads the chat and generates a written analysis of the relationship dynamics, presented as shareable cards. The analysis is AI-generated novelty and entertainment content. It is automatically produced, varies between runs, and may be wrong, incomplete, unfair or nonsensical. It is not a factual statement about you or anyone else (see section 6). We may add, change or remove features at any time.

2. You must be 18 or over

The service deals with dating and relationship content and is strictly for adults. By using it you confirm you are 18 or over, able to enter a binding contract, and using it for personal, non-commercial purposes.

3. Only upload chats you are part of

This is the most important rule. By uploading a chat you confirm that you were a genuine participant in that conversation, that you have the right to upload it for your personal use, and that you will not use the service to harass, abuse, stalk, embarrass or harm the other participant or anyone else. You must not upload conversations between other people, content you have no right to process, or anything unlawful — and you must not probe, overload, reverse-engineer or bypass the service or its payment. If you break this rule, you are responsible for reasonable losses we suffer as a result, and we may refuse or stop your sessions.

4. Payment — one-time, via Stripe

The teaser is free. The full analysis costs a one-time fee (shown at checkout — £2.99 in the UK), VAT-inclusive where applicable. No subscription, no recurring charge— we never store your card to charge you again. Payment is processed by Stripe's hosted checkout; your card details never reach our servers. Payment unlocks a single full analysis of the one chat you uploaded. Prices for future purchases may change; the price at checkout is the one that applies.

5. Cancellation and refunds (UK consumers)

The analysis is digital content supplied immediately after payment. By paying, you expressly request immediate supply and acknowledge that once the analysis begins you lose the statutory 14-day right to cancel (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected: the analysis must be of satisfactory quality for a £2.99 entertainment product, and if it fails to generate through a fault on our side, contact us and we will re-run it or refund you. Refund requests: privacy@theread.chat with your payment reference.

6. Entertainment only — not advice

The analysis is NOT professional, psychological, therapeutic, relationship, legal or medical advice, and is not a diagnosis or assessment of any person. It may be inaccurate, biased or simply wrong. Do not rely on it to make decisions about your relationship, your wellbeing, another person, or anything else. If you are struggling with a relationship, your mental health, or your safety, please talk to a qualified professional or a support service — in the UK, the Samaritans are on 116 123 (free, 24/7); in an emergency call 999.

7. Your content and our output

You keep all rights in your chat content; you grant us a limited licence to process it solely to provide the service. We own the service, the brand, and the card designs. On payment you get a personal, non-commercial licence to use, download and share your analysis and cards — including posting the watermarked cards on your own social media. Please don't remove or obscure the watermark.

8. Availability and liability

The service is provided "as is": we don't promise it will be error-free or always available (it depends on third-party AI providers), and we may modify, suspend or discontinue it. Nothing in these terms limits liability where that would be unlawful (including death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your non-excludable consumer rights). Subject to that, we are not liable for losses that aren't reasonably foreseeable, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us for the relevant analysis (£2.99), or £10 if you used only the free teaser.

9. The boring-but-necessary rest

We may refuse, block or stop a session where we reasonably believe these terms have been breached. Clauses that should survive (3, 6, 7, 8) survive. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales; consumers in Scotland and Northern Ireland keep their home-nation protections. We may update these terms by posting the new version here with a new date. Contact: privacy@theread.chat.
